Hooked nose is a nose shape which a part of nose is bulged, and humpectomy cuts a bulged part and makes natural and beautiful line.
Generally, hooked nose is due to congenital reason or acquired reason.
There is difference according to seriousness, but generally hooked nose is long compared to face, and bridge of nose is bulged, and nose line is not straight, but bent as oval shape as lateral view, so it gives fierce and obdurate image. It shows more frequently in Westerner than Asia, but many Korean also have hooked nose.
For these reason, we associate witch as old, wicked and ugly woman with hooked nose.

Bulged part which locates middle part of bridge of nose, it consists by bone and cartilage.
To remove bulged part completely, Dr should remove not only bone but also soft cartilage together to prevent recurrence.
Also tip of hooked nose’s septal muscle which pull tip of nose is developed, so Dr should weaken this muscle and lift tip of nose by septal cartilage to make more natural nose.
Humpectomy needs 1.5-2 hours for surgery, and it uses sleep anesthesia or general anesthesia.
Patient can go back to home at the d-day immediately, removes stitches after 5- days, and needs to do treatment in clinic for 2, 3 times.
1 week after humpectomy, the swelling reduces 70-80%, and to get natural nose, it needs 2-4 weeks. Like every other plastic surgeries, after-treatment is very important for rhinoplasty.
It needs ice pack for 2-3 days to reduce swelling, and to prevent bleeding due to osteotomy. During daily life, patient should avoid bow down or lie down, or lift head higher during sleep, or sleep aside or lie down, or any position which may damage nose.
3-5 days after surgery, patient can remove tape which is for protecting nose, and check up status by 2-3 times treatment. It does not need to remove stitches, because it uses melting thread. Patient can wash one’s face after removing tape, and can do make-up.
To prevent inflammation, patient should eat antibiotic. To prevent swelling and relieve pain, patient should eat anti-inflammatory and analgesic.
