Cautions before Rhinoplasty
- Not only just for Rhinoplasty, patient should avoid to do surgery during menstrual period. However if it is obligated to do surgery during menstrual period, patient should tell surgeon first, then he will prevention measures for bleeding by menstrual.
- Aspirin, antiarthritic medicine, and Vit.E may bring bleeding during or after the surgery, so patient should avoid taking them for a week before Rhinoplasty.
- Oriental medicine which is not approved, steroid medicine which affect healing wound, so patient should avoid taking them for a week before Rhinoplasty.
- Stop drinking and smoking for a week before the surgery! You know, right?
- Generally, men have more bleeding than women, and need more time for recovery, so men should plan surgery when they have time on their side.
- Recovery time is different according to surgical method, so should choose right and proper surgical method.
- For painless anesthesia, patient should not eat any food for 6 hours before surgery.
- During Rhinoplasty, nail is important component to check patient’s status, so should remove nail polish before the surgery.
- Metal jewelry, accessories may bring surgical instrument disorder or burn, so should not take them.
Cautions after Rhinoplasty
- Rhinoplasty spends almost 2 hours, and patient should apply ice pack for an hour just after the surgery, and then go back to home.
- For 3-4 days after the surgery should apply ice pack and then applying hot pack is better.
- Until the 2nd day after Rhinoplasty, it is fine to cleanse the blood, but don’t take off the hard blood clot.
- Until the 1st week, it is better to avoid reading books or doing computers. Should not blow one’s nose because of stiff feeling, and should take prescribed medicine.
- For one week after Rhinoplasty, patient should use high pillow. Put surgical area higher than heart is a good way to reduce swelling quickly for every surgery.
- To prevent movement of silicon, patient should avoid wearing glasses or frowning one’s face for 2-3 weeks.
- Except prescribed medicine, patient should consult with surgeon before eating any medicine.
- Should avoid excessive drinking or smoking for a month after Rhinoplasty.
These are all basic cautions.
But it is easy to forget and ignore because it is basic and detailed.
